Women speak out in defense of human rights and sovereignty

Through an official statement, the women of the Josefa Joaquina Sánchez Women’s Movement of Movements spoke out in defense of peace, sovereignty and justice in Venezuela.

“We will not give up our right to live a life free of violence. In these difficult times, our courage and firmness were evident in the defense of our rule of law,” reads the document read by the national representative of Women of the Somos Venezuela Movement, Shamadi Romero. This women’s movement joined together to express its repudiation of “the physical and psychological aggressions against revolutionary leaders.”

They also demanded justice for victims of political violence, such as Isabel Cirila Gil in Bolívar state; Mayauri Silva in Aragua state; and Karina and Yeinnys Palacios in Yaracuy.

“On July 28, 2024, we peacefully expressed our sovereign will and our absolute support for feminist President Nicolás Maduro Moros. Despite the attempts of those who have promoted violence and chaos, the Venezuelan people remained firm in their commitment to the Bolivarian Revolution,” they said.

The Josefa Joaquina Sánchez Movement also made it clear that “we will not allow tiny groups with terrorist behavior and a clear fascist ideology to try to undermine the constitutional order and destroy what we have built with effort, sacrifice and love.”

They expressed their solidarity with “all the women who were harassed in their homes and whose children were irresponsibly bribed for subversive purposes using methods of perversion and psychological terror in the different states of the country.” Finally, the women called on the people of Venezuela, “so that together we can consolidate a future of peace and justice for the well-being of the great Venezuelan family.”
