This Tuesday, December 2, the women of Cabimas carried out a mobilization against gender violence, after the indignation caused among the population by the murder (feminicide) of Yoleidi Laforgia González, 36 years old.
Laforgia González was allegedly beaten to death by her partner during the early hours of Saturday, November 29, while the victim’s three young children were in another room of the house where the crime occurred.
Under the slogan Not one more!, the first lady of the Cabimas municipality, Yamileth Olivares de Carreño, who is also the president of the Municipal Women’s Institute (Immujer), in the company of a group of Cabimense women, expressed their rejection against gender violence and the homicide of Yoleidi Laforgia González that occurred in the Majagua sector, Punta Gorda parish.
Olivares stated that Immujer raises their voice in the face of these reprehensible acts and urged women to report when they are victims of violence. It offered legal and psychological support to women who may be going through situations that affect their right to a life free of violence because they are women.
“Today we raise our voice in unity and so that these events are not repeated, they have our security forces, our defenders and legal advisors. We urge them not to remain silent and seek help, sometimes we minimize situations that we must take very seriously because, generally, they later worsen and lead us to situations like the ones Yoleidi experienced,” said Olivares.
The president of Immujer regretted that three children have been left orphaned by this terrible crime and urged citizens to unite in solidarity with the family of Yoleidi Laforgia González.
For her part, the deputy of the National Assembly, Isabel Fernández, Municipal coordinator of the Great Venezuela Women Mission (GMVM) and president of the Bolivarian Women Foundation (FMB), indicated that they are working to ensure justice is done in the case of femicide of Yoleidi Laforgia.
According to journalistic reports, the alleged murderer of Yoleidi has not yet been captured by the Zulia police forces, although the information about the feminicide was known since the early hours of Saturday, November 29.
