The Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) and Ceibal signed an agreement whereby 200 women from eight departments, participants in the Jovenes a Programar initiative, will join the information technology sector, a highly dynamic industry.
The information technology sector is very dynamic and it is estimated that there are between 3,000 and 5,000 jobs available that cannot be filled due to lack of trained personnel. In addition, it is a labor area that presents a considerable gender gap, since only two out of 10 people who work in the field are women. For this reason, the agreement promotes a double objective: to meet the needs of the labor market and reduce the gender gap, explained the National Director of Employment, Daniel Pérez.
The agreement will allow these women to access the junior tester and junior programmer profiles, based on the Jovenes a Programar initiative run by Ceibal. In addition to providing the possibility of accrediting knowledge.
Inefop Certificate
A team from the National Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (Inefop) will be responsible for evaluating the skills incorporated once the training process is complete. “They will have a certificate from Inefop, which would be equivalent to having taken a course, with the difference that they learned while they were working and receiving a salary,” said Pérez.
Participating companies will be provided with a work methodology that includes the training of tutors to carry out the training. This dynamic will remain as an asset of the companies for future actions. Training in gender perspective will also be provided.
The objective is “that they can get a job in one of the companies that are joining this program,” Pérez explained. Those who are selected will access a six-month training process, which will be taught in the workplace itself.
