According to the judicial body, they presented compelling evidence that proved that the woman took the animal to her home and treated it like a pet. However, on January 24, 2022, the woman noticed the sloth’s physical deterioration and decided to take it to a veterinarian in the city. Unfortunately, the animal died the next day, prompting authorities to investigate the circumstances of its death.
«The medical specialists concluded that the mammal was in terrible health conditions and that its teeth had been filed. The autopsy revealed that he suffered hypothermia, derived from malnutrition, and respiratory arrest,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
Crime for which the woman was found responsible
Due to these events, Pulgarín was declared responsible for the crime of illicit use of renewable natural resources.
The sentence not only seeks to provide justice for the sloth’s death, but also sends a clear message about the importance of caring for and protecting animals, especially those that are part of the wildlife.
Finally, authorities have emphasized the need for greater awareness about animal welfare and the importance of reporting any cases of mistreatment.
