Woman was murdered by her partner in the chapel of the Military Hospital of Managua

Ericka Judith Martínez Sandoval, 34, from the capital, was murdered on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 21, in the chapel of the Doctor Alejandro Bolaños Military School Hospital in Managua, allegedly at the hands of her ex-partner, identified as Giovanni Alexander Fonseca Mendienta.

According to reports from official media, Fonseca Mendieta arrived at the victim’s workplace, forced her into the hospital chapel and stabbed her twelve times in different parts of the body. According to the publication, soldiers surrounded the place and entered in an attempt to prevent the crime, but it had already been committed.

They also indicated that in the morning hours of August 21, the victim had a heated argument with the subject who came to pick her up at her workplace, in the Billing and Credit area.

Ericka Judith Martínez Sandoval, relatives told Channel 10, reported the subject for violence in February of this year and he currently had a restraining order, but he always harassed and threatened her, telling her that “if she wasn’t his, she wouldn’t be anyone else’s.”

The citizen lived in the Grenada neighborhood in Managua and leaves behind two minors.

Alleged femicide has already been arrested

Giovanni Alexander Fonseca Mendienta, according to reports, was arrested inside the Military Hospital and was transferred to District One to be investigated for the alleged crime of femicide.

The employees of this private hospital were held for two hours after the crime occurred.

The murder of Ericka Judith adds to the 52 other femicides that have been recorded so far this year in Nicaragua. The Catholic Voices for the Right to Decide Observatory (CDD) has reported that these hate crimes against women this year have been committed by husbands, partners, ex-partners, acquaintances, relatives and neighbors.
