A woman with the initials ETM was placed in pretrial detention after being formalized for treacherous homicide in Pozo Almonte, Tarapacá region.
The 34-year-old defendant would have murdered the leader and entrepreneur Antonia Esteban Moscoso last Friday, for which she was arrested by the Investigative Police.
According to the chief prosecutor of Tamarugal, Hardy Torres, the defendant picked up the victim at the commune’s Performing Arts Center, with the excuse of going to sign a notarial document for the transfer of land.
Esteban Moscoso, who had a 70% physical disability and walked with the help of a cane, was her husband’s aunt and had a close and trusting relationship with her.
To commit the brutal crime of the entrepreneur in Pozo Almonte, ETM reportedly drove to an uninhabited home, where it stabbed her in the chest with a knife. Likewise, he wounded her neck, which compromised arteries and veins.
Then he wounded her 4 more times in the back area, and these wounds compromised vital organs such as the heart and lungs, which finally caused her death.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant, after the disaster, proceeded to clean the space that served as a hideout to commit such a horrendous crime and put the victim’s body in a suitcase to leave it safe from prying eyes, leaving the place.
The next day she went to the same address, and moved the bag to another house. She then proceeded to dump it into a septic tank located in the yard.
Antonia Esteban’s relatives filed a complaint about her disappearance and the PDI took a statement from the accused, since she was the last person to see her alive.
After verifying that his sayings did not match what security cameras showedthe woman ended up confessing to the crime and detailed the way in which she had carried it out.
The Public Ministry requested the precautionary measure of preventive prison, which was accepted by the Guarantee Court of Pozo Almonte. In addition, an investigation period of 120 days was set.
