“Woman is one of the engines of life”

Analysts such as legislators Kattya González, Celeste Amarilla and writer-journalist Estela Ruiz Díaz explain the gaps that women must deal with to occupy spaces unlike men.

However, they emphasize that, despite the difficulties, there has been progress in recent years.

KATTYA

Kattya González, national deputy for the PEN, affirmed that women are taking a leading role in the political scene. As well as in the various scenarios in which society unfolds.

“This is the product of a long struggle. The woman is one of the main engines of what makes daily life. She still has a hard time accessing the spaces of power. Of 80 deputies, only 11 were elected deputies and two more were added by substitution. As for the senators, they are 8 out of 45. So we have percentages that are around 20%, despite the fact that women represent 51% of the population, ”she questioned.

For the legislator, parity is advancing and in the next period and the next generations will reap the fruits of the work of the congresswomen who fought for more participation.

“The woman is also in a position to exercise the presidency of a tall chamber. After four years, this is the first time that a woman occupies the board of directors,” she said, referring to Norma Camacho, also a deputy for PEN who was elected second vice president.

“The family barriers, the roles that society imposes and that represent obstacles for women to enter politics are true. Women should not feel less, they should discuss with the family to be an alternative and that everyone has their spaces, “she concluded.

YELLOW

Celeste Amarilla, a national deputy for the PLRA, affirmed for her part that there is progress, but there are still obstacles for women to enter politics. Some very particular such as housework, child care and more.

“Each woman must fight within her family. But when she manages to overcome it, she must face other obstacles such as discrimination, lack of guarantees (insecurity), lack of resources. It is difficult for the woman to enter. She still prefers men even though we are absolutely the same, ”she stated.

He pointed out that both men and women are expendable. That is, both are the same. However, she highlighted the intuitive capacity that women have and that puts them ahead of men to carry out political work.

“Women are much more intuitive. That is proven, capable because we were designed to procreate. Perhaps because we were designed to raise children. And that is very important in life and in politics, ”she assured.

RUIZ DIAZ

The journalist, analyst and writer Estela Ruiz Díaz, reports for her part that a survey by the Journalists’ Union of Paraguay yielded the following results; 72% of women said they had ever been harassed at their workplace; 62% felt discrimination regarding job promotion and 53% responded that their labor rights are not respected.

“Labor equality is very uneven and there is still a long way to go. There are gaps not only in labor activity but also in salary level, according to several official statistics. Not only are there differences in employment: there are distances in educational parity, in health, in politics. Added to this is the context of violence that affects women, impacting all aspects of their lives,” she explained.

Finally, when asked about the values that Paraguayan women have, she stated that, in the midst of so much inequality, Paraguayan women are resilient due to this titanic effort to improve the living conditions of their family environment.

“He does it so that his children have a better future. In Paraguay almost 700 thousand women are heads of household. For this reason, it is imperative that the State redesign public policies to improve their living conditions and stop romanticizing the ‘values of the beautiful kuna‘ (working woman in Guaraní)”, he concluded.
