Guadalajara, Jal., Teachers from bicultural basic level schools in the Wixárika region, which includes San Andrés Cohamiata, San Miguel Huaixtita, Ocota de la Sierra, San Sebastián Teponahuaxtlán and Tuxpan de Bolaños, intensified and expanded the work stoppage that began in November past, and given the lack of response from the authorities of the sector, they closed the regional offices of the Ministry of Education based in the municipality of Colotlán.
The take of facilities and extension of the work stoppage occurs despite the fact that last week the Jalisco Education Secretariat (SEJ) reported in a bulletin that it attended to and resolved the series of requests from Wixárika teachers dissatisfied with the official disdain, in an entity whose system education is administered by the state government and has systematically refused to deliver it
to the Federation as happens in almost the entire country.
Families support teachers
The teachers, supported by parents who are members of the different dissatisfied Wixárika communities, arrived on Sunday night and camped outside the administrative offices of Education, where this Monday morning they continued their demonstration and placed a large number of cards with legends that demand the presence of officials to resolve their requests, which, given the distance of the northern area of Jalisco from the center of the state, have historically been ignored or half-fulfilled.
They made public an agreed manifesto in Bajío del Tule, municipality of Mezquitic, on January 15 with the presence of the five union delegates from the Wixárika region, affiliated with section 16 of the National Union of Education Workers.
The manifesto of the paristas is made due to the lack of a timely and adequate response by the corresponding authorities, in the face of the legitimate demands of the workers and the educational community and the need to guarantee decent conditions for the exercise of our work, as well as for access to quality education in our region
.
They declared that the work stoppage and the sit-in at the headquarters of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Education (DRSE) in Colotlán responds to a legitimate fight for the defense of our rights and the improvement of conditions in the indigenous educational sector
.
They request an appearance
They demanded the appearance of officials from the federal, state and municipal governments, who will have to go to the Plan Huicot primary school, in the town of El Chalate, annex of the Wixárika community of San Andrés Cohamiata.
We commit to continue working with responsibility and dedication once the agreements are met and the necessary conditions for the performance of our functions are reestablished. We appreciate the support of the community and reiterate that our actions seek collective well-being, the defense of our rights and the continuous improvement of education in our region.
says the manifesto.
The protesters warned that they demand a prompt response, because two months have already passed since the work stoppage began, because otherwise there could be more vigorous actions
to be heard, “as take the DRSE facilities in Colotlán and even marching to the government palace in the Jalisco capital.”
