Without clear evidence, Rodriguez says Gonzalez Urrutia signed a "surrender" without coercion

According to Jorge Rodríguez, Edmundo González Urrutia entered the Dutch embassy on the day of the elections. “And he left only once on July 30.” He assured that there was no pressure.

The president of the 2020 National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, refuted this Thursday, September 19, the claims of Edmundo González Urrutia, opposition presidential candidate, that he was coerced by the government to sign the letter of recognition of the results of the July 28 presidential elections that grant Nicolás Maduro victory for a third presidential term.

“The truth is incontrovertible, it is extremely powerful; and lies are always supported by a weak framework, hence the saying, lies always have short legs,” said Rodriguez in a press conference at the AN.

However, the evidence he presented to disprove González Urrutia’s claims were clips of some barely understandable audio recordings, with distorted voices that he attributed to the opponent and an interlocutor, whose name he withheld.

According to the pro-government deputy, the opposition signed a capitulation. In military terms it is a surrender signed by Mr. González Urrutia and that is why we were summoned to the Spanish residence,” he emphasized.

According to Jorge Rodríguez, González Urrutia entered the Dutch embassy on the day of the elections. “And he left only once on July 30” for an event called by the leader María Corina Machado.

“When the interlocutor sought us out for negotiations, Gonzalez Urrutia moved to the Spanish embassy,” he said. The PSUV leader said that, for now, they will not reveal the name of the interlocutor, but said that there were telephone conversations and then in person.

The deputy insisted that the opposition candidate, who traveled to Spain on September 7 after requesting political asylum, recognized him as president of the AN for 2020 and Delcy Rodríguez as vice president of the republic, “with which he recognizes President Maduro, who was the one who appointed her.”

He said that González Urrutia was desperate to leave Venezuela, which means that his departure represents “an escape.”
