Of the 53,714.27 million pesos that the Superior Audit of the Federation (ASF) determined as probable recoveries of public spending in 2023, only 1,762.23 have been reimbursed, the Budget Commission concluded in the opinion of the Public Accounts of that year, which will be voted on this Wednesday in plenary.
This means that 51,979.04 million pesos remain unverified, and of that amount 40,801.34 million correspond to states, municipalities and state public universities, this is 78.5 percent of the total, the commission said.
Another 7,215.92 million correspond to the economic development category and are equivalent to 14 percent; 3,802.12 million to social development, (7 percent) and the rest to federal government agencies.
The opinion plans to validate the public account of the fifth year of government of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador; However, the commission specified that the approval of the opinion “does not suspend the processing of the actions promoted by the ASF. This allows those responsible for alleged irregularities to be sanctioned in accordance with current regulations or, where appropriate, to present the corresponding clarifications or solutions.”
The presentation of the opinion was made the day before this Thursday the auditor David Colmenares presents the second individual report of the Public Account 2024, in the context of the dispute over the replacement in the ASF, which will take place in March 2026.
Yesterday, Emilio Barriga Delgado, former auditor of federalized spending, reported that he began to present his project to Morena deputies to modernize the audit, with a view to registering when the Surveillance Commission issues the respective call.
He proposed an “oversight with a State vision, that takes advantage of technology for the early detection of risks,” as well as applying the general digitalization of all ASF processes and intelligent auditing. He trusted that the secession process will be “transparent and adhere to legality.”
