This Sunday, October 26, the liturgical feast of San José Gregorio Hernández took place in Isnotú, Trujillo state. The celebration did not have the presence of Cardinal Baltazar Porras because there were problems getting to the town.
The bishop of the Diocese of TrujilloMonsignor José Trinidad Fernández, was present for the solemn mass on the first liturgical feast of San José Gregorio Hernández.
It is worth remembering that every October 26, the town of Isnotú celebrates the birth of the Doctor of the Poor and, since 2021, the Catholic Church has set the date to celebrate its liturgical feast. This year marks the 161st anniversary of his birth and is the first celebration of the dates since his canonization.
First liturgical feast of San José Gregorio Hernández without Baltazar Porras
This Saturday, one day before the celebration, Cardinal Baltazar Porras reported that he was prevented from reaching Isnotú.
The cardinal was invited to the liturgical feast of San José Gregorio Hernández, so he planned to travel the day before the celebration.
However, several irregularities occurred with his transfer: the airline he was traveling with notified him that the contracted flight had been suspended. Given this, he did not come to board the flight, but he later learned that the flight left normally and that the rest of the passengers were not notified about the supposed suspension.
Later, he managed to board a private flight, but when they were in the air the pilot was ordered to land in Barquisimeto under the argument of bad weather conditions in the Andes that supposedly kept the Varela airport closed, another situation that – he assured – never occurred. Added to this was a large military presence at the Barquisimeto airport.
Furthermore, he tried to continue his journey by land and they did not allow the hired vehicle to make the journey. Finally he had to return to the Maiquetía airport and be absent from the liturgical celebration.
