What was called a press conference ended up being a monologue cheered by a group of Cabildo Abierto militants, applauding several of his statements that gained strength, volume and anger as Irene Moreira, now former Minister of Housing, made a statement. review read by his management.
“Despite so many achievements that we have achieved and that have benefited so many Uruguayans, today we are called upon to talk about this fact of public knowledge, which is nothing more than a new operation to discredit our actions”, said Moreira at the National Housing Directorate, in Ciudad Vieja. With a tone between affable artificial and pre-angry, Moreira defended his management while throwing some indirect -or direct- against the broad front. “As I said a few days ago and I repeat it again, we have not acted throughout these three years outside the current regulations,” Moreira continued before a round of applause and cheers.
“Here no law has been violated, no political conditioning has been done, nor have we benefited any citizen in particular. We have always acted in good faith, protected by a framework that has been used throughout the history of this ministry, which is also public knowledge of all current authorities. This same procedure was used by authorities in the 15 years that preceded this administration on more than 70 occasions”, he raised.
On awarding a house directly to a lobbyist: “I would do it again”
“Now I am going to refer to the particular case. If they consult me today, I would make the same decision again, protected by the regulatory framework by which a housing solution was provided in the form of rent with the option to buy within the framework of the bidding program that this citizen will have to pay Of the same. “From next Monday I will return to work tirelessly, side by side, from the Parliamentfor the most fragile, as I have done all my life”, he concluded before getting up and sharing smiles and greetings to his now former MVOT teammates.
