The president of the Republic, Dina Boluarteis in Switzerland, where it participates in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
The president’s trip began on Monday, January 20 and is expected to conclude tomorrow. Before embarking on the journey, Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer announced that Boluarte would meet with five heads of state in Switzerland and various business leaders. Did this happen?
On Tuesday the 21st, the official account of the Presidency published on its social networks that the head of state would have a bilateral meeting with the president of Guyana, Irfaan Ali. However, no photos of the meeting were published and the meeting is not included in the president’s official agenda. Therefore, this would not have occurred.
Those he did meet with
Dina Boluarte has shared images of the various meetings she has had at Davos 2025, not only with business leaders, but also with heads of state.
Finland
The president met on Wednesday, January 22, with the president of Finland, Alexander Stubb. This meeting does appear on the president’s official agenda. In addition, the Presidency shared images of the meeting, in which Chancellor Schialer and the Minister of Economy, José Arista, also participated.
Panama
Dina Boluarte also held a bilateral meeting with the president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, on Wednesday. Chancellor Elmer Schialer was at the meeting, as was the Minister of Economy, José Arista. High-ranking Panamanian officials were present, such as the Minister of Economy, Felipe Chapman.
This meeting also appears on the president’s official agenda.
For this Thursday, the president has no scheduled meetings with other heads of state, according to her agenda. Although the Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that he would meet with five heads of state, it is unknown if meetings with other presidents would take place tomorrow, considering that it is his last day in Switzerland.
Meeting with business leaders
Minister Elmer Schialer announced that the president would meet with 14 business leaders. However, so far, the president has only held meetings with eight, according to her official agenda and the photographs published by the Presidency’s account.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem
The first meeting was held with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO of DP World. A multinational company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, operating in the logistics and port management sector.
Gary Nagle
On Wednesday the 22nd, he also held a bilateral meeting with Gary Nagle, CEO of Glencore, one of the largest and most diversified raw materials companies in the world.
“The multinational company recognized the legal and economic security of the country and announced its company’s interest in expanding investments in Peru,” said the Presidency in its X account.
Duncan Wanblad
That day, the president also held a bilateral meeting on Wednesday with Duncan Wanblad, CEO of Anglo American, one of the main producers of minerals and metals worldwide. In Peru they exploit the Quellaveco mining project.
According to the Presidency’s account in X, Wanblad “expressed his interest in expanding the corporation’s investments in Peru, through the Quellaveco mining company.”
Rafael del Pino
The Peruvian head of state held a bilateral meeting with Rafael del Pino, executive president of Ferrovial, a Spanish multinational that operates in the infrastructure and construction sector.
According to the Presidency’s account, Del Pino “highlighted Peru as a strategic partner for the development of key investments such as the work of the Peripheral Road Ring that will improve the connectivity of Metropolitan Lima and Callao.”
Likewise, it indicates that “the president invited Ferrovial to participate in the bidding processes of seven projects promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.”
Tom Palmer
Another meeting was with Tom Palmer, president and CEO of Newmont, one of the largest gold mining companies in the world. This company carries out the Yanacocha mining project, located in Cajamarca.
At the meeting, they discussed “the expansion of the Yanacocha Sulfuros project, with the objective of unblocking this mega-project that includes an investment of around $2,000 million, destined for water treatment work for the Cajamarca region.”
Jacob Wallenberg
This Thursday the president held a bilateral meeting with the president of Investor AB, Jacob Wallenberg, as well as the vice president of the company, Marcus Wallenberg. Investor is a family business, considered one of the leading investment companies in Scandinavia.
Morten Dyrholm
President Boluarte met this Thursday with Morten Dyrholm, senior vice president of Vestas, a leading Danish company in the wind energy industry.
According to the president’s official account, Boluarte spoke with Dyrholm “about the opportunity to expand the wind energy production operations of said company in Peru.” In addition, he points out that the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, as well as the Minister of Economy and Chancellor Schialer, participated in the meeting.
Adebayo Ogunlesi
The president’s agenda includes a meeting today with Adebayo Ogunlesi, CEO of Global Infrastructure Partners GIP, an infrastructure investment firm. According to the schedule, the meeting would take place at 10:00 am. However, so far the president’s account has not published details of the meeting.
In that sense, the eight meetings held by Boluarte with business leaders are few compared to the 14 announced by Schailer days before. Especially because he assured that he would meet with executives from Microsoft and Meta, without specifying whether he was referring to Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, respectively.
Likewise, the president’s tomorrow’s agenda has not yet been published. However, it seems difficult for him to meet with six business leaders and three heads of state in a single day to comply with what the chancellor announced.
