The Brazilian Championship has a new goalscorer. This Monday (5), Goiás defeated Santos 2-1 at Vila Belmiro, in Santos (SP), in a night inspired by Pedro Raul. The number 11 scored twice and took the top spot in the competition, with 14 goals, one more than fellow striker Germán Cano, from Fluminense.
The Goiás, on the other hand, overtook Peixe in the Brasileirão table. Esmeraldino gained a position and appears in ninth place, with 35 points, after 25 rounds. Alvinegro, with 34 points, dropped to tenth.
The visitors needed a minute of the ball rolling to take the lead. Striker Dadá Belmonte crossed from the right and Pedro Raul, with a header, opened the scoring. Satisfied, Goiás retreated the lines to play on the counterattack, even without scaring the hosts’ goal again in the first stage. Santos still had chances to equalize before the break, with midfielder Vinícius Zanocelo, but stopped at goalkeeper Tadeu.
At the beginning of the second half, Alvinegro, finally, left everything the same. At nine minutes, Madson received from midfielder Luan and crossed low, on the right. The ball deflected on the other side Sávio, who scored against. Goiás, however, did not take long to return to the front. At 15, Pedro Raul saw goalkeeper João Paulo ahead and scored a goal for coverage. Santos pressured Esmeraldino in search of another draw, but was inefficient in the construction and completion.
Santos returns to the field this Saturday (10), at 16:30 (Brasília time), against Ceará, at Arena Castelão, in Fortaleza. On Sunday (11), at 7 pm, Goiás welcomes Flamengo at Serrinha stadium, in Goiânia. The duels are valid for the 26th round of the Brasileirão.
