So far in Donald Trump’s administration, there have been three fewer deportations of Mexicans for every 10 compared to those reported in the last year of his predecessor Joe Biden.

The above, based on data from the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of the Interior, which reveals that in 2024, the last year of the Biden government, the United States expelled 206,233 nationals, while so far in the Republican government (from January 20 to December 17) there are 145,537, which means 29.4 percent less.

That is, with one month left until one year of the second term of government, 60,696 fewer deportations of Mexicans are reported than with his predecessor.

The information shows that so far in 2025 is the period with the lowest number of repatriations of countrymen since 2012.

Although the numbers are expected to rise due to the political offensive that Trump has undertaken against migrants and the raids by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE).

The Day published a few days ago that according to official data from Washington reported by the NBC network, more than 220 thousand people have been arrested by ICE. Of that total, a third are Mexicans (85 thousand), followed by Guatemalans (31 thousand) and Hondurans (24 thousand).

Figures from the Office of Customs and Border Protection show a considerable decrease in the number of attempts to enter irregularly in the last year.

From January to November 2025, 360,636 border encounters between undocumented immigrants and US immigration authorities were reported, while in the same period of 2024 there were 2,304,826.

In a review of the numbers of expulsions of Mexicans during the last three US federal administrations, it is observed that it was in the second term of Barack Obama’s government when the highest number was reached, with one million 3 thousand 364.

Data from the Mexican government show that in 2016 there were 219,905 repatriated countrymen, in 2015 there were 207,398, in 2014 243,196 were registered and 332,865 in 2013.

In Trump’s first term, 184,423 were reported in 2020, with 211,241 in 2019, 203,669 in 2018 and 167,064 in 2017, for a total of 766,397.

It is worth remembering that the numbers of migratory flows and deportations fell, particularly in 2020, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The numbers from the Ministry of the Interior show that during the four years of the Biden administration the expulsion events of compatriots were the following: 206,233 in 2024, 214,849 in 2023, 258,000 in 2022 and 260,329 in 2021, for a total of 939,411.
