The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, was present at the launch of the summer season in Punta del Este which was held at the Superior School of High Gastronomy of the Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay (UTU).
Lacalle, who did not make statements, attended along with the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, the undersecretary of the portfolio, Remo Monzeglio, the mayor of Maldonado, Enrique Antía, with whom he took the podium.
The first to speak on the podium was Antía: “How nice to launch the season with a positive horizon after two years of the pandemic. I want to thank the government for its work so that no one falls from us in these two years. We made a great effort to support the tourism sector. We listened to their requests because for us It is key that this industry is maintained,” he added.
“Surely it will be a better season than last year. And at the moment that I am speaking, the La Barra bridge for vehicular circulation,” announced Antía.
Minister Tabaré Viera also made statements, pointing out that “this is a launch of the summer season for the entire country.” “Since the borders were opened, the number of visitors has been rising to the point that in the last quarter it was at pre-pandemic levels. So we hope that we will continue to ascend“, he indicated.
