The image of Johana Ramallo, disappeared in 2017 in a context of human trafficking and whose cmutilated corpse was found on the coast of the Buenos Aires town of Beriso in August 2018, was installed at the entrance of the federal courts of the city of La Plata, and For the young woman’s mother, it is proof that they continue “in the search for truth and justice”.

The initiative is part of “Butterflies Program”a policy of Ministry of Women, Gender Policies and Sexual Diversity Buenos Aires that promotes the construction of collective memory in the communities around the victims of femicides, transvesticides and transfemicides.

The event, held at the gate of the federal courts of La Plata, was attended by Marta Ramallo, Johana’s mother, and Flavia Delmas, Undersecretary for Policies against Gender-Based Violence, as well as municipal and provincial authorities.

Delmas stressed the importance of placing “a signage” at the door of the Federal Courts of La Plata that says they still need “the necessary justice and truth. Not only for the family but for society as a whole.”

For its part, Martha Ramallo, Johana’s mother explained that the “signaling is proof” that they continue “in the search for truth and justice, since they want “to know what happened to Johana” and the “Justice” “owes them that answer.”

We will continue on the path of the request for Justice of our Johana and of all our ´Johanas´ disappeared by an absent Judiciary, a State that abandoned our daughters and sons especially during the period of (former president Mauricio) Macri and (former governor María Eugenia) Vidal, who were ignored by the State,” he said.

Later, Marta Ramallo, together with her children and about twenty of Johana’s colleagues and friends, went to the corner of 3 and 44 in La Plata, to restore the mural of the face of the young woman who was murdered by a trafficking network.

Johan’s disappearance

Johana was last seen on July 26, 2017, when she left her house, where she lived with her mother and her little daughter with the promise that she would return at 8:30 p.m. that day, which never happened.

The mutilated remains of her body were found on the shores of the city of Berisso in August 2018, although they were not identified as belonging to the young woman until 2019.

Finally, at the end of last June, Justice arrested Carlos “El Cabezón” Rodríguez, who was seized with an embargo of 10 million pesos.

Rodríguez is in pre-trial detention as accused of the crimes of “drug trade in ideal competition with economic exploitation of prostitution in the ‘red zone’ of the city of La Plata, and promotion, facilitation and economic exploitation of the prostitution of others aggravated by the abuse of the situation of vulnerability on three occasions”, including the case of Johana.
