President Andrés Manuel López Obrador addressed a packed Zócalo on three different occasions to symbolically hand over the baton to his imminent successor, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, in front of the public square.
In unison, the people joined in and accompanied the president with this refrain: Madam President! Madam President! Madam President!
chanted thousands.
In his sixth and final Government Report, the head of the Executive did not miss an opportunity to once again praise the woman who will take office as President of the Republic on October 1.
He will replace it, he said, A woman who is in line with the founding principles of our transformation movement
.
The first allusion to his successor was made when he spoke of the return of passenger trains to the country. Under the promise that El Insurgente, which will connect Toluca with Mexico City, will be completed during the next six-year term, the president stressed: Right, Claudia?
He immediately dedicated a few words to celebrate the electoral victory in the elections of June 2.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our president-elect, the next constitutional president. President! President! President!
Several minutes later he went into more detail about his successor. I laugh, because look at the happiness. I knock on wood, but imagine, imagine if the people of Mexico had not decided for President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. President!

However, he stressed that after his defeat, the leader of a party (from the PAN, Marko Cortés) accepted that they had made a mistake and that they were not in favor of these programs.

But the people are a lot of pieces, the people are not stupid. That speech provoked a multitudinous shout in a packed Zócalo that, steadfast, endured the inclement midday heat of the capital. To close, López Obrador dedicated his last nod to Sheinbaum in front of the public square.
I am also leaving with peace of mind because the person to whom I will hand the presidential sash by mandate of the people is an exceptional woman, experienced, honest and, above all, with good feelings, a good heart; in line with the founding principles of our transformation movement and an authentic defender of equality, freedom, justice, democracy, and sovereignty: Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. President! President! President!
