With rise in gender violence, Aguascalientes is getting ready for a governor

insufficient proposals

In the first month of political campaigns for the governorship, the candidates have presented various proposals to fight against gender violence, but most have been described as insufficient, ineffective or even some as obligations that are already in the law. . Others have been taken as positive although the projects are not yet fully known, nor the budget that will be required.

The candidate of the PRI-PAN-PRD alliance, Tere Jiménez, proposed a joint cabinet, working with a gender perspective and promoting labor equality and non-discrimination, eradicating institutional revictimization, creating a police group of “Pink Agents” and placing digital “pink bracelets” connected with the State Center for Coordination, Command, Communication and Computing (C5) to request emergency support; strengthen the Justice Center for Women and create the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Women (FEMA).

“Okay, but how are they going to work, what is the methodology, what is the strategy? And precisely these well-planned, well-thought-out policies, even with identified strategies, because there are none, or at least they have not been made known that way. For example, the Special Prosecutor’s Office is fine, but what branch of the budget is it going to come from, who is going to manage it, how is it going to work,” says Sabás de León, who considers that among the most important things to guarantee access to justice is the substantial improvement in repairing the damage and, above all, the guarantee of non-repetition.

We know that the arrival of a woman does not guarantee either the gender perspective or that there is parity, or that effective prevention programs are generated, but we believe that it is a very important step because the arrival of a woman is a totally different perspective.

Violeta Sabás de León, coordinator of the Gender Violence Observatory

“There have been no substantive achievements with these projects. The fact that you have a pink bracelet does not imply that with that they will no longer violate you or that you will have a three-second response, what do you need to save your life”, adds Roxana D’Escobar López Arellano, director of the Contemporary Woman shelter.
