The Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) has opened free registration for the first edition of Expo Brasil Paralímpico. The event will be held between the 20th and 23rd of November, from 9am to 7pm (Brasília time), at São Paulo Expo (Km 11.5 on Rodovia dos Imigrantes), in the south zone of the capital of São Paulo, within the 19th International Fair of Technologies in Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility (Reatech), one of the main of its kind in Latin America.
“The proposal is to make everyone aware of the importance of sport in the lives of people with disabilities, not only as a rehabilitation tool, but also as a means of promoting health, social inclusion and personal development. The CPB will present, through its projects and life stories of Paralympic athletes, the certainty that sport has the power to transform lives”, said the president of the Committee, Mizael Conrado, on the entity’s website.
In addition to promoting parasport and generating business for the segment, the exhibition will feature demonstrations of sports and meetings with Paralympic athletes. Last year, Reatech already had the Paralympic Arena, a space for experimenting with four adapted sports: wheelchair basketball, bocce, blind football and athletics.
The event will also host the seventh edition of the International Parasports Congress. The meeting has been taking place since 2010, becoming biennial in 2014 and bringing together researchers, doctors, masters, postgraduates, teachers and students from areas linked to Paralympic sport. The program includes courses, debates, workshops and research panels.
According to Mayara Ranzan, doctor and collaborator at the Brazilian Paralympic Academy (APB), in a statement to CPB, the Congress aims to “disseminate scientific knowledge produced in different contexts involving Paralympic sport and its aspects, promoting and creating opportunities for professionals and students to exchange their experiences in training, education, evaluation, athlete career, sports classification, management, health and technological innovations”. Despite being part of the Expo Brasil Paralímpico program, the link for registration is another.
