Due to the soaring of the blue dollar after the departure of Martín Guzmán from the Ministry of Economy, Argentina is once again positioned as a cheap country for foreigners. And in that context aesthetic tourism resurfaces, because travelers have access to prestigious doctors at low cost.

In the last three months the demand tripled. It is that the winter holidays and the soaring of the blue dollar that came to exceed 350 Argentine pesos, were the perfect combo for foreigners to lay their eyes on Argentina. The main asset of the sector is the quality of the service and of the professionals, and the prices that are cheaper than in the world.

“Today and as a consequence of the jump of the dollar, beauty treatments are up to three times cheaper than in neighboring countries“, explained the medical director of the Iobella comprehensive aesthetic center, Gastón Clemente. “In the last three months, the demand for treatment tripled, especially for non-invasive ones,” added the businessman.

What is customary for those who arrive in the neighboring country is travel between five and seven days to do a combo of treatments. Then they continue with the post-intervention follow-up online, through zoom

The public that leads the demand is the Brazilian followed by the Uruguayan. “We do not have availability for the next 30 days. We expected demand to be down over the holidays, but that was not the case,” Clemente said.

What are the most demanded treatments?

The most popular treatments are those who do not need a long recovery or several sessions.

Today it is fashionable full face (full face, in Spanish), which is a combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures that are done to rejuvenate and harmonize a face”, said the surgeon of the Argentine Society of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Marcelo Di Maggio.

In addition, he stated that At the body level, the treatments with the greatest demand are liposuction and three-dimensional liporemodeling at the abdomen level; that combined with the botox and gluteal reshaping.

Fillers and botox that do not need recovery today lead the demand of those tourists who come to the country“, said Clemente. Among them, the filling of breasts stands out, which has a average price of US$ 3,000.

cosmetic surgery pole

“Argentina is a pole of attraction for cosmetic surgery”Di Maggio noted.

According to the National Institute for Tourism Promotion of Argentina, Before the pandemic, the country was in the top five medical tourism destinations in the region. Around a thousand medical tourists arrived each month, and the average stays were approximately five times longer than those of conventional tourism because they lasted between three and six weeks. That translated to an average annual income of between $200 million and $250 million.

Although medical tourists did not arrive during the pandemic due to the closure of borders, that is already part of the past and cosmetic surgeries attract foreigners again. “The pandemic seems to be over and that makes many foreigners want to travel again. And Argentina continues to offer quality services, because the clinics where surgeries and aesthetic treatments are performed are first classl”, concluded Di Maggio.
