With open arms, Santiago de Cuba awaits today the presentations of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), which will take place from the 3rd to the 5th next at the Heredia Theater with the staging of the classic Coppelia.
In the morning, the sale of tickets began at the main coliseum in Santiago and at several other points in the city, in order to allow greater access to a public eager to enjoy the art of a dance company of high carats in the country and abroad.
Yasmani Liens, president of the Provincial Council for the Performing Arts, referred to the enthusiasm of the people of Santiago for this proposal, including the residents of nearby eastern provinces who have communicated with the interest of also being present on the occasion.
He alluded to the program that the dancers and other members of the BNC will develop, who will pay tribute in the Santa Ifigenia cemetery to heroes of independence and especially to the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, who did so much for the Cuban ballet school.
They will also travel to the emblematic town of El Cobre and its Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Caridad and will hold meetings with students of artistic education.
This will be the first time that the artists will offer their virtuosity after the physical departure of the general director, prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, who chatted with the people of Santiago in 2005, 2013 and 2015, on that last occasion, for the 500 years of the town.
In 2005, the BNC offered El Lago de los Cisnes, before a Heredia theater packed with people who enjoyed this complete version of the also renowned choreographer, who received the Shield of the City during those days.
About eight years later, the famous company presented the show The Magic of Dance, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of its foundation and the 70th anniversary of Alicia’s debut in the role of Giselle, considered by many to be the best interpretation of that character in the century. XX.
Precisely with this anthological piece, it was the return when the seventh town founded by the Spanish turned half a century old and the Heredia confirmed its good conditions to host stagings of that complexity, just three years after the devastating onslaught of Hurricane Sandy.
