Coach Tite called up, this Friday (11), the Brazilian team for the last rounds of the South American Qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup. The games will be against Chile and Bolivia. Striker Gabriel Martinelli, from Arsenal (England), is the main novelty of the list, which brings together 25 players.
The 20-year-old, revealed by Ituano and sold to English football in 2018, for the equivalent of R$30 million, was called up to the senior team for the first time. Last year, he was Olympic champion at the Tokyo Games (Japan). The forward was named Arsenal’s best player in the last two months, in an award decided through a poll on the club’s official website. The Brazilian started in eight of the team’s nine games in 2022.
In addition to Martinelli, the call-up has five new faces compared to January, for the games with Ecuador and Paraguay. Back sides Danilo and Guilherme Arana, midfielder Arthur (who hadn’t been called up for over a year) and forwards Richarlison and Neymar return. The latter missed the first matches of the year due to a left ankle injury. The sides Emerson Royal and Alex Sandro, the steering wheel Gerson, the midfielder Everton Ribeiro and the forwards Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Barbosa and Matheus Cunha are the absences in the comparison with the previous list.
The duel against the Chileans will take place at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro, at 8:30 pm (Brasília time) on March 24th. Five days later, at the same time, Brazilians visit Bolivians at the Hernando Siles stadium, in the capital La Paz.
Undefeated, Brazil leads the South American qualifiers with 39 points, four ahead of Argentina, in second place. The two teams, in fact, still need to play the second game between them, which had to be suspended in September last year, after agents from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) interrupted the match at the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo. As it will have no impact on the situation of the teams, which are classified for the Cup, the confrontation should take place in June.
