The Ministry of Rural Development and Lands (MDRyT) will implement actions focused on strengthening the development of fishing and aquaculture in different regions of the country, with a budget of Bs 265 million to be executed in the period 2022-2025, through the Decentralized Public Institution for Fisheries and Aquaculture (IPD-PACU).
Grover Garcia, director of the IPD – PACU, explained that, as of the enactment of Supreme Decree 4632, the National Program for the Development of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture was approved, with the aim of strengthen this sector for food security of the country and promote the consumption of fish, so work is being done to increase the production of fish meat to 9,000 tons in the four years of execution of this budget.
“In Bolivia, an average of 2.61 kilograms of fish meat is consumed per year (per person), but it is intended to reach the consumption of 5.1 kilograms per person, annually”, added García who highlighted that this program will benefit 9,640 families from 108 municipalities in the nine departments.
For Holy Week, between April 13 and 14, there will be fairs in the cities of La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, where fish meat will be marketed from the producer to the consumer, he announced.
He argued that the IPD – PACU it will expand the production of more species and will strengthen the breeding of surubí, paiche and carp.
