The acute economic conditions generate a growing discomfort in the population, and sooner or later a social outbreak could occur.
Havana.- Reading of the article “In the opposition to the regime they all fit”from my colleague Luis Cino, with whom I almost daily share opinions, leads me to meditate on the matter that is already giving my point of view.
It is obvious that the security of the State and how many devices have to protect the interests of the regime have a priority function. Since the beginning of Castroism, the repressive bodies of intelligence and counterintelligence have served to eliminate any opposition outbreak, whether peaceful or armed. To do this, the Revolutionary National Militias (MNR) and the CDRs (Defense Committees of the Revolution), a system of delation to denounce any opposite demonstration, said in good Cuban, to sink to those who expressed themselves against the Government.
Other ways of exercising social and ideological control were the nationalization of schools, politicized plans and indoctrination in education, scholarships in the countryside, mandatory military service and the collection of primary school children such as pioneers, as well as young people for the union of young communists (UJC).
We must not forget that Castroism tried to eliminate religious beliefs in the 1960s and 1970s, when going to Church was almost a crime. Not a few suffered exile and prison for refusing to abandon their beliefs. When they expelled many priests from the country, many churches had to close their doors in lack of evangelizers.
Many families were divided by political reasons. For years, Castroism reached the point of demanding its supporters not to relate to disaffected, even if they were from the family, and even less with those who had left the country.
As I expressed in a recent article, the ability applied at every difficult time of these 66 years by Fidel Castro and its continuators has made the regime remain clinging to power, although each time the people suffer more shortage and physical and spiritual misery in every way.
It is not only today when the regime tries to create oppositors manufactured to its measure. And with so many who think about their way of seeing things and expressing them, it is barely known who is who.
In these critical moments for the regime, appear to open spaces for the debate pursues the objective of strengthening the regime, confusing the unsuspecting with a non -existent openness.
As Cino states, they applied and now renew the teachings of Félix Dzershinski and the KGB with respect to manufacturing false opponents. The lack of opposition unity allows it to be penetrated by state security.
There are many and varied forms of opposition to the regime, ranging from those who would settle for “light” reforms to perfect the system without departing from socialism, to those who see the need for a total transformation.
It does not escape the disunity of opposition judgments, the temptation to distribute charges of an illusory power before a transition occurs. La Rebatiña, as my Cino colleague is called, is not only among officials; It also exists on the opposition side. And with that disunity, nothing will be obtained.
It is painful to admit that there are many people of goodwill that facilitate the infiltration of provocaters and chivatos. Just by wanting to excel, for a matter of ego, they prepare the way to individuals who undermine the cohesion of true opposition forces.
Some abroad insist that from within we must launch ourselves to the street and openly face the regime. But a lot of courage is needed to challenge repressive bodies. Cubans do not forget the shot of the early years and thousands of people imprisoned in these 66 years of dictatorship. They are still fresh in memory, and intimidate, the long sentences imposed on more than a thousand of the participants in the protests of July 11, 2021.
However, such acute economic conditions generate a growing discomfort in the population, and sooner or later a social outbreak could occur. If it happens, it will take fragmented to the opposition. The Machiavellian principle “divides and win” is something that the regime has always applied with absolute precision.
The opposition still does not achieve a minimum consensus to join criteria that for now seem irreconcilable. That dispersion prevents progress in the common objective. Without unity, it will not be possible to achieve so longed for freedom and democracy.
