A tour of the province of Darién was carried out this Monday, April 18, by the Minister of Security, Juan Manuel Pino, and the Secretary of National Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, which included a visit to the facilities of the Migratory Reception Station of Saint Vincent.

During the visit to Darién, Minister Pino had the opportunity to explain to Secretary of Defense Mayorkas how Panama has had to attend to a migrant population that enters through the Darién jungle in vulnerable conditions.

He also took the opportunity to talk about the inter-institutional work of Panama, offering them health care, food, education, access to justice and accommodation in reception centers for migrants.

The Director of Migration Samira Gozaine was also present during the visit, who explained the work carried out by the security forces in biometric verifications and the use of technological resources in areas of difficult access.

Minister Pino’s work team, which arrived at the Mayor Salvador Córdoba air station in Nicanor, Darién, included the deputy director of the National Border Service, Luis Trejos, who spoke about the work carried out with the migrant population, in order to ensure an orderly and safe flow.

Security Secretary Mayorka’s visit to Darién took place as part of the work agenda of the Ministerial Meeting on Migration, whose venue is Panama.
