Timão enters the field with a recent history of failures against the Rio de Janeiro club. Corinthians’ last victory against this Sunday afternoon’s opponent was in September 2018, in the semifinal of the Copa do Brasil. At the time, the Corinthians beat Flamenguistas by 2 to 1 and went through to the finals of the competition.
Since then, nine duels have been held, with eight wins by Flamengo and one draw.
The two teams come from outstanding rankings in the Copa Libertadores during the week, each with its relevance. The Paulistas eliminated Boca Juniors (Argentina) on penalties, in the middle of La Bombonera stadium, in Buenos Aires. The only Brazilian club that had achieved this feat before was Santos de Pele in 1963.
The red-blacks, on the other hand, easily passed Tolima (Colombia), with a 7-1 rout at Maracanã. As a consequence of this, Cariocas and São Paulo will be opponents in the quarterfinals of the continental competition.

In the Brasileirão, Corinthians needs to recover, since in the last two rounds they did not win. In fact, last Saturday suffered a 4-0 rout for Fluminense, at Maracanã.
On the other hand, Flamengo emerged victorious in the last two clashes in the national competition. If Libertadores games are also included, coach Dorival Júnior’s men accumulate four consecutive victories.
