Corinthians will decide next Sunday (February 1st) the title of the Champions Cup, the first women’s club World Cup organized by FIFA. This Wednesday (28), the Brazilian team advanced to the final of the competition after a hard-fought victory against Gotham FC (United States) by 1-0, with a goal from BGabi Zannotti, scored in the final minutes. The six-time Libertadores champions faced the North American team – winners of the Concacaf Champions Cup – at Gtech Commnity, Brentfort’s stadium, in London.
“This has been a dream for many years, working at Corinthians, waiting for this opportunity for us to prove once again how much we deserve to be a reference in the whole world. They think that Brazil can’t do it, but we come and show that we can. Pride precedes a fall”, said Zanotti with strong emotion as he left the field, after changing the history of the game.
The final will be next Sunday (February 1st), at 3pm (Brasília time), at Arsenal’s stadium, the Emirates Stadium, in London. The Brabas will face off against the winning team of the other semi, this afternoon (28), between the Arsenal team (England), winner of the European Champions League, and ASFAR (Morocco), which won the African Champions League title last season.

At the beginning of the first half, the New York team threatened Lelê’s goal. In the 4th minute, Timão’s goalkeeper saved a ball headed by Jaedyn. At 16, Rose Lavelle had the best chance to open the scoring, when Corinthians failed to take the ball, but she shot poorly. In the next minute, it was Brabas’ turn to threaten Berger’s goal: Gil Fernandes threw it to striker Jaque Ribeiro, who got rid of two defenders before launching a bomb, but the ball hit the defense.
Afterwards, midfielder Andressa Alves had two opportunities to find the net. In the first, she took a risk from outside the area, forcing goalkeeper Berger to make a good save in two halves. Then, in the 21st minute, Alvninegro’s number 8 counterattacked, after assistance from Gabi Zanotti, and when he was about to shoot from the edge of the small area, it was blocked by Gotham’s defense. The game remained balanced and went to halftime goalless.

In the second stage, Gotham was more offensive. In the 7th minute, Purce darted down the right flank and crossed to Katie Stengel, who deflected it towards the goal, but the ball missed the post on the outside. With more possession of the ball, the North Americans piled up scoring chances, which stopped at the São Paulo team’s well-armed defense. Until the 37th minute, Tamires crossed from the left to striker Gabi Zanotti, who hit a beautiful left-footed shot, opening the scoring for Brabas.
At a disadvantage, the North Americans pressed in search of a draw until the end. And there is excitement! With a foul in favor of the North Americans, Jaedyn Shaw kicked out, in the last play of the match. Better for Corinthians, qualified for the first Women’s Club World Cup final.
