The beer company Grupo Modelo presented its first heavy vehicle charging station “Dr. Fuentes” at the Doctores Agency, with the aim of contributing to the environment in Mexico City and reducing carbon emissions by 25%.
The event was chaired by Cassiano De Stefano, president of Grupo Modelo; Manuel Alfonso, VP of Logistics at Grupo Modelo; the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Andrés Lajous, CDMX Secretary of Mobility, for the unveiling of the charging station.
The process began almost three years ago with the presentation of its first delivery transport fleet in Latin America. With this new charging station, Grupo Modelo hopes to meet the goal of reducing the emissions caused by cargo trucks to zero by 2040.
According to Manuel Alfonso, Grupo Modelo’s VP of Logistics, the charging station has the capacity to load 32 units of 21 tons in just two hours. The investment of this new project was 7.2 million pesos. They expect to have eight stations at the end of March, which would have a total of 42 million pesos invested, with 800 electrical units. Two of them would be located in Monterrey and the State of Mexico.
In an interview, Sergio Valadez, Grupo Modelo’s logistics director, commented that it currently has 132 electrical units operating in Mexico and eight electrical stations are underway, each with an investment of 7 million pesos. “We are still identifying in which cities and at which points it is convenient for us to enable these power stations. It is what we have for now in the short term for this 2023 ”.
Grupo Modelo is the first company to achieve a station for charging vehicles in Latin America. Currently, 5% of its fleet is electric, and it is expected that by 2025 it will be 25 percent.
