Guadalajara, Jal. The traditional canteens installed in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara not only represent a tourist attraction and an important economic turnaround for the city, but now, in addition, they will generate a fund of three million pesos that will be distributed among ten charitable institutions in the state. .

And it is that through the book “This life is suffering”, which tells the story of 45 canteens established in the city between 1898 and 2023, the Elite group Foundation will obtain the resources -both for the sale of the book and for contributions of tequila companies-, which will later be delivered as donations to social assistance institutions.

“The aim is to achieve, through the tequila companies and through some breweries, etc., that have benefits from these consumption centers, to be able to generate a series of dividends that go directly and without any profit or tax benefit, to generate ten important donations to ten places of social assistance”, commented to El Economista, the founding partner of Elite, Luis Montes de Oca.

He explained that they will deliver ten grants of 300,000 pesos each, to homes, shelters for homeless mothers, nursing homes for the elderly, and institutions that help children with cancer.

“Every peso and cent that the tequileras pay to participate is distributed in full. Their benefit is to be in the book, our benefit is to be able to direct those resources to these places of need,” he commented.

For his part, the author of the book, Luciano Sandoval, stated that canteens are part of the city’s culture and represent, in addition to being a tourist attraction in the historic center of Guadalajara and other municipalities such as Tlaquepaque and Zapopan, a source of income for many people from Guadalajara who work as waiters, bartenders, boleros, furniture makers and musicians, among other trades.

“In this book you will find the history of the oldest canteen in the city, which is Sin Rival, which opened in 1894, to the El Gallo canteen that opened just a year and a half ago, going through all the most emblematic canteens. Also, a review of 25 canteens that no longer exist,” Sandoval mentioned.

The author, known in this type of twist as “Chano” Sandoval, anticipated that in a subsequent publication, he plans to tour the cantinas in the state of Nuevo León and, later, those of Mexico City.
