“With 800,000 Venezuelans living here, there is a small Venezuela inside Lima”

Nurys Morin is a Venezuelan psychologist who directs the NGO Veneactiva that deals with “peacefully integrating the migrant and refugee population of Venezuelans in Peru with sustainable solutions”, which reaches almost two million people throughout the country.

In Conversations —a space of the association Colombo-Venezuelan Citizen Dialogueled by the journalist Txomin Las Heras Leizaola and the political scientist Alejandro Martínez Ubieda—the clinical psychologist Nurys Morin explains his experience leading the NGO Veneactiva that provides support to the community of Venezuelans who have migrated to Peru.

Graduated from the Metropolitan University with a specialization in the Central University of Venezuela, Nurys Morin talks about how, even before the formal creation of Veneactiva, on September 13, 2019, she was in charge of offering advice to Venezuelans who have fled from the crisis. to the south of the continent.

The NGO “is defined as a technical-based organization and its mission is to peacefully integrate the Venezuelan migrant and refugee population in Peru with sustainable solutions,” he explains. He provides a number that “winks” at the Caracas telephone code: 080080212, where they can call to ask for advice.

Also read: “I feel identified with migrants because I left the country without wanting to leave”

He specifies that only in Lima, the capital of Peru, there are about 800 thousand Venezuelans and in the whole country there are about two million.

The organization has three large areas, “migratory governance, where it covers incidences with different entities of the Peruvian State, organizations and companies to generate space and public policies; protection area, which I direct, and has to do with safety, health, prevention of gender-based violence and psycho-emotional support. Hand in hand with governance (it is attended to) what has to do with migratory regularization to ensure the beginning of what would be true integration, which is to have an identity document. Lastly, citizen participation” that takes shape when the migrant ends up being part of the decision-making processes in the country, explains Morin.

Of the main problems that Venezuelans, or any migrant, faces in Peru, he highlighted access to employment, since there are legal limits that are imposed on companies so that they do not exceed 20% of foreigners in their templates; as well as access to public health and schooling.
