The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, inaugurated 13 new dining rooms located in different locations in the country, in an act held at the headquarters of that social service institution, located in the Los Mina sector, Santo Domingo Este.
During the activity, the president stressed that these establishments guarantee a quality diet to thousands of Dominican families living in vulnerability conditions, greatly improving their quality of life.
The Head of State congratulated the general director of Economic Denter of the Dominican State (CEED), Edgar Augusto Féliz Méndez, Highlighting the great work he does, congratulations that also expressed the work team.
He said that, with these openingsthe goal of 159 economic dining rooms is completed installed throughout the national territory during five years of its management.
“This has been an unprecedented milestone. With the extension of the services of economic dining rooms, this government has achieved historical levels in food security, reaffirming the commitment to move towards the goal of declaring the Dominican Republic as a country with zero hunger,” said President Abinader.
The Head of State, accompanied by the Director General of Economic Oresters, Edgar Augusto Féliz Méndez, declared that, to date, the commissioning of new facilities has an increase of more than 500 percent, a direct benefit in the economy of the most needy population segment.
The symbolic opening ceremony since Santo Domingo this represents, according to the words of the president himself, a commitment fulfilled with the most vulnerable and a social investment that dignifies people.
“There is nothing more to say, with the same budget we have multiplied in 500 percent the installation of dining rooms throughout the country, and we will continue, before the end of the year we will be inaugurating about 20 more,” he said.
On his side, the general director of the Social Assistance Institution said that, with this expansion, the operational capacity of the dining rooms is strengthened, which today serve more than 54 million rations cooked per year, in addition to the distribution programs of raw rations and emergency kits that reach the most vulnerable sectors in situations of calamity or natural disasters.
“The management of economic dining rooms has gone from being a limited program to dozens of community kitchens to become a national food security network, with coverage in all the provinces of the country and presence in neighborhoods and communities where there were no public feeding services before,” said the official.
The blessing of the new dining rooms was in charge of Father Gregorio Alegría Armendáriz.
He assured that the communities of Sabana Yegua, Azúa; Guayubín, Montecristi; Party, dajabón; Guaymate, La Romana; Black background, Barahona; Clavellina, Bahoruco; José Francisco Peña Gómez, Pedernales; El Palmar, Bahoruco; Guayabal, Azúa; Foundation, Barahona; Sabana Grande de Palenque, San Cristóbal; Sweet Arroyo, Barahona; Guachupita, National District; as well as a kitchen enabled in the Migration Directorate for foreigners detained, guaranteeing that these populations will receive a decent and timely service, which will contribute to the strengthening of food security throughout the country.
