Winter Lights 2025 inaugurated in the Zócalo; concerts, pastorelas and crafts until January

The Head of Government, Clara Brugada Molina, inaugurated this Saturday the 2025 Winter Lights Festival in the capital’s Zócalo, a free celebration that will fill the heart of the city with music, light and cultural activities until next January 4, on the occasion of Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026.

During the opening ceremony, Brugada highlighted that this festival marks the closing of an intense year of cultural activities in the Zócalo and in different parts of the capital, with the aim of bringing art and culture closer to the entire population.

“Let’s give a round of applause to the capital’s Zócalo, which today is going to have a Monumental Birth, Christmas Eve trees produced in conservation areas and the largest tunnel with light in the country. Hundreds of artistic groups will come with this great party,” said the president.

Concerts, pastorelas and crafts in the heart of the city

The artistic programming includes a main stage with 76 concerts that cover genres such as tropical music, son, norteño, danzón, rock, ska, urban, folklore, mariachi, Christmas carols and sonideros. Added to this is a Christmas Forum with dozens of pastorelas aimed at audiences of all ages.

As part of the experience, a corridor with 120 craft exhibitorsin collaboration with the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico City, where creators from different regions of the country offer local pieces and products, with the aim of strengthening cultural commerce and making artisanal work visible.

The celebration extends to the entire capital

The capital’s Secretary of Culture, Ana Francis López Bayghen Patiño, pointed out that Luces de Invierno is not limited to the Zócalo, but extends to 15 points in the city with festivals, posadas and community festivals which began on December 19 and will last until January 6.

Furthermore, he invited citizens to receive the New Year 2026 on Paseo de la Reforma and to enjoy in community a season marked by music, dance and coexistence. “The Head of Government’s instruction was to embrace the population, that each light and each piece be a message of closeness from the Government of Mexico City,” he stated.

Guest artists and monumental attractions

In the coming weeks, the Zócalo will welcome national and international artists and groups such as Cecilia Toussaint, The Cardinals of Nuevo León, Los Askis, Baby Volcano, Cimarrón, Mexamorphosis, The Victims of Dr. CerebroLa Barranca, Ana Tijoux and Ibrahim Ferrer Jr., among others, in a billboard that reflects the musical diversity of the capital.

The undersecretary of Large Community Festivals, Argel Gómez Concheiro, reported that in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral the largest light tunnel in Mexico was installed, with more than 625,000 lights, as well as an artificial snow walk.

From December 20 to January 4, the Plaza de la Constitución hosts three monumental trees illuminated with poinsettias from the Conservation Ground, 14 light sculptures inspired by Christmas motifs and traditional Mexican toys, a Monumental Nativity and various visual installations.
