Almost in the middle of the month of March, when high temperatures are already registered and the sun burns on the skin as if we were in the middle of summer, this Saturday the 12th the cold front touched Cuban soil that seems to end the Cuban winter stage, characterized contradictorily by hotter than cold, as is often the case in our archipelago due to its geographical location in the Caribbean.
While, in the province of Matanzas, in certain localities, a heavy downpour relieved the bad breath of the drought that dries up our fields and crops, in Havana the rain passed like a quick spray, without much to soak; however, the strong winds animated the night between the sound of the waves, windows, doors and objects from neighboring rooftops.
The blow lasted throughout the night and early morning with bursts as if we were experiencing the event of a tropical storm that shakes palm trees, and makes the public lighting wiring and the sheet that was forgotten on the clothesline dance. On the Havana boardwalk, the waves also did their thing with the splashes that advanced through the streets.
Although its effects, fortunately, are not even remotely close to a March 12, but in 1993: that day occurred in Cuba what we know and remember as the storm of the century, with strong gusts of wind that were felt from Pinar del Río to Ciego de Ávila, and the Casa Blanca weather station in the capital of all Cubans recorded gusts of more than 100 kilometers per hour.
