Santa Cruz faces a difficult day due to the strong winds that hit the region, with speeds reaching 58 km/h gusts of up to 81 km/h. Lieutenant Rafael Abasto, in charge of municipal emergencies, reported on multiple incidents attended to in districts 4, 5, 6, 7 and 12, where fallen trees on public roads and vehicles were reported, as well as the fall of a giant poster.
Fortunately, I don’t know reported damage to human integrity, limiting the incidents to material damage. “On this day, we have recorded 25 reports of fallen trees (until 17:30). LThe Municipal Risk and Emergency Management Department has responded to six of these cases, which have involved trees falling on homes and vehicles,” Abasto explained.
The lieutenant called on the population to be patient. He assured that first response units are working to resolve the emergencies.
He also recommended to citizens Avoid parking vehicles under leafy trees and take precautions when engaging in outdoor activities. He also urged construction workers to always use safety devices such as harnesses and helmets.
Red alert
The National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (Senamhi) activated a Red alert for strong winds with speeds between 80 and 110 km/h until this Saturday, August 3. The Governorate also declared a red alert, anticipating that winds in the Cordillera province could reach up to 100 km/h, while in Andrés Ibáñez, Warnes and Sara they would reach 80 km/h, and in Chiquitos and Ñuflo de Chávez up to 70 km/h.
The authorities enabled telephone lines to attend emergencies: the Departmental Government of Santa Cruz activated the 800-148139and the Santa Cruz Mayor’s Office 800 12 5050.
