MADRID, Spain.- The renowned Cuban singer-songwriter Willy Chirino offered details about his “Viva la libertad” tour of Spain that will take place at the beginning of next June.
In conference press release via zoom, coordinated by Actions for Democracy (AxD), based in Madrid, Chirino specified that the tour will begin in Gran Canaria on June 5 and will continue through Madrid (June 6), Barcelona (June 9) and will conclude in Valencia on June 12.
About the concerts, the musician explained to CubaNet that will be very happy, to dance and enjoy, but within that framework there will be songs that speak of the sad reality of the people of Cuba.
“The purpose of my music is to unite Cubans and bring them a message of love and hope about the changes towards democracy,” he added.
The musician announced that as a novelty he will sing a very sauced version of the popular song “Escándalo”, which will appear on his next album. While the rest will be mostly his classics such as “Our day is coming” and “The hooker”.
Tickets for the concert can be purchased through the Innova Events website, producer of the tour, and on the Corte Inglés website.
Regarding the motivation to return to Spain after 15 years, he referred to the number of Cubans in the European country who follow his music with whom they “sing together and ask freedom for Cuba”.
During the press conference, Willy Chirino sent a message of solidarity to the relatives of the political prisoners in Cuba: “We are aware of what is happening. And I have great faith that they will be free.”
Asked about the possibility of performing again on the island, he explained that he has been planning to sing in Cuba for years, but the Cuban authorities have never responded.
He added that if he could sing in a place free of charge where Cubans could see him freely and were allowed to choose his repertoire without censorship, “he would do it tomorrow.”
“I dream of touching Cuban soil, the soil that saw me born,” said the musician, who has lived in the United States since he was fourteen years old.
