Risks of helium balloons inside and outside the Metro
Helium balloons not only represent dangers within the Metro, they can also affect the street and other public spaces. By escaping or rising, they can interfere with infrastructure and create safety issues. Among the main risks are:
Getting caught in electrical cables or signaling systems, causing short circuits or interruptions.
Block vents, traffic lights or signs, affecting the safety of pedestrians and vehicles.
Cause damage to the Metro infrastructure or streets, generating delays or accidents.
Contribute to environmental pollution, since plastic or metal balloons do not degrade easily.
Increase the risk of fires, both in electrical installations and in areas with dry vegetation or flammable materials.
For these reasons, the Metro and the authorities advise against the use of metallic or helium balloons, even during celebrations such as Valentine’s Day.
