What is the biometric CURP and what data will it have?
It is an updated and modern version of the unique population registration key (CURP), since in addition to having personal information, it will have biometric data that serve to identify a person, such as fingerprints.
According to him DOF the unique population registration key “will be the National Document of Compulsory Identification, of Universal and Mandatory Acceptance throughout the national territory, and will be available in physical and digital format.”
On July 16, the modifications to the law for the creation of this document were published in the DOF, as part of a legislation on the search, location and identification of missing persons and the population registry.

The document entered into force on July 17, 2025, but there is still no specific date for the entire population to process it. The authorities are expected to prepare the necessary infrastructure at 90 calendar days of the publication of the Decree. That is, in October of this year.
Is it necessary to process a welfare pension or a social program?
Biomnetic CURP is not yet a specific requirement to process a federal social program, such as older adults, people with disabilities or welfare women, whose record will open in August 2025.
According to Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Ministry of the Interior, its implementation will be carried out in a “voluntary, gradual, orderly and coordinated manner in order to guarantee that it is safe, reliable and accessible to all.”
However, public and private entities must begin to incorporate the CURP as a requirement in their procedures and receive the document if someone presents it, since it is an official identification document.

Currently, the Ministry of the Interior He informed that there are 145 teams operating in the civil records and official offices of the National Population Registry (Renapo) for the capture of biometric data.
