In addition to the uncertainty surrounding the issuance of passports in the country, the Office of the Attorney General (PGN) has focused on another key element of the service: appointment scheduling.

Attorney General Margarita Cabello warned that investigations will be carried out regarding the alleged irregularities that are occurring in this process. This follows complaints from several citizens who claim that they have had to go to processors outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to obtain a space on the agenda.
“We have discovered that the quotas are being sold, and that is why we are going to make the corresponding preliminary inquiries regarding the preventive mission.”the official said.
Cabello also said that if the information is verified, the relevant disciplinary investigations will be carried out.
Other complaints that have been made regarding appointment scheduling relate to long lines, failures in the portal intended for this service and limited hours. In this regard, the Public Prosecutor’s Office urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to reconsider the current scheduling model to facilitate user access and avoid congestion in the completion of the procedure.

The statement by the Attorney General’s Office is presented after a round table meeting convened by the entity. was attended by Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo and Comptroller General Carlos Hernán Rodríguez.
The meeting aimed to present an assessment of the Government’s strategy to avoid a possible crisis in the provision of the service of issuing this document. An issue that has set off alarm bells considering that The contract with the current contractor Thomas Greg & Sons ends on October 2nd. and the State plans to have the National Printing Office take over this task from September 2025.
In this regard, Murillo has indicated that they will work together to ensure that there will be no impacts on the process. At the same time, a process will be carried out to strengthen the capacities of the National Printing Office.
