During 2025, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) will invest 1,265 million pesos for the payment of compensation to doctors who occupy more than 20 thousand places that have been difficult to cover in the country. The plan includes in the program to the newly opened Regional General Hospital of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and others that in a short time will enter into operation in eight states of the Republic.

The agency reported that the Technical Council approved to maintain this economic benefit for the doctors who, according to the medical unit where they work, will receive between 2,600 and 6,600 pesos per month, additional to their salary.

In 2024 the investment in this program amounted to 819 million pesos for the benefit of 16,253 doctors, said Social Security director Zoé Robledo Aburto.

He commented that it was possible to have specialists in 123 medical units, in particular hospitals, which meant an increase of 15.47 percent coverage in vacancies that had not been covered for many years.

Now, 246 medical units of the three levels of care will be included in 34 of the 35 Deconcentrated Administrative Operation Bodies (OOAD) of the IMSS in the states. The payment for 20 thousand 897 places was authorized, of which 4,727 are vacancies.

Second -level hospitals next to open and included in the program are in Ensenada, Baja California; Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche; Zaragoza, Mexico City; Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas; Guanajuato, Guanajuato; Allende tula, Hidalgo; San Alejandro, Puebla, and Ticul, Yucatán.

In addition, the IMSS director reported that next month they will graduate around 7,400 resident doctors of the different clinical specialties and in March the recruitment process will be carried out in the same institute and for the different hospitals, in particular those who will be Inaugurated in the following months, such as Tula and Ticul.
