Miami, United States – Wilber Aguilar, father of the 11J political prisoner Walnier Luis Aguilar Riverahe was arrested this Thursday without court order or clear charges while leaving his house in the neighborhood of La Güinera, in Havana, to find the bread, according to his wife in An audio Sent, via WhatsApp, to the journalist Yaima Pardo.
“Wilber was taken prisoner now. He went to look for the bread and, when he was going down, there was a ‘safe’ there, watching him, and took him to [la estación de la Policía de] Capri, ”said Aguilar’s couple.
The arrest occurs despite the fact that the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted at the end of last January precautionary measures in favor of Wilber Aguilar and his family. In A resolution issued on January 30, 2025the Inter -American Agency considered that the beneficiary was “in a situation of gravity and urgency of risk of irreparable damage to their rights.”
Aguilar has been the subject of constant surveillance since 2022, after initiating a public complaints campaign for the arrest of his son, Walnier Luis Aguilar Rivera, who in addition to being considered a political imprisonment, is a person with disabilities and also a beneficiary of precautionary measures.
The IACHR documented that, as a result of its human rights defense activities, Aguilar has undergone “repeated arrests, during which episodes of incommunication with their relatives have been reported, inadequate conditions of confinement, and repeated threats by state agents”.
In its resolution, the IACHR asked the Cuban State to “adopt the necessary measures to protect the rights to personal life and integrity” of Aguilar and his family, as well as “implement the necessary measures so that they can develop their activities of defense of human rights without being subject to threats, harassment or acts of violence”.
The IACHR also stressed in its document that “the aforementioned facts reflect a continuity of the risk events against them over time” and regretted that the authorities have not provided any information about their situation, despite having been formally notified.
So far, it has not been informed if Aguilar has been released or under what conditions is detained. His family fears that he will be subjected to incommunication, a practice denounced multiple times by national and international human rights organizations.
