Wife of detained Argentine officer: He entered legally, we did not imagine this would happen to us

Argentina condemned this Friday, December 13, the “arbitrary and unjustified” detention in Venezuela of the non-commissioned officer of the Argentine National Gendarmerie, First Corporal Nahuel Agustín Gallo. His family indicates that he met all the immigration requirements to enter the country for a visit.

María Gómez, partner of Nahuel Agustín Gallo, an Argentine official detained in Venezuela on December 8, said that the official completed the immigration procedures to enter Venezuela and that despite knowing the political crisis that the country is experiencing, after the presidential elections, The feeling of being reunited won over them.

Gómez said that the last thing he heard from the official was on Sunday, December 8 at nine in the morning, when he informed him that they were going to take him for a second interview and that he had taken his cell phone to check it.

The woman returned to Venezuela seven months ago to help her mother. After the presidential elections on July 28, he had told his partner about the repression. “I told him that we had a horrible government, a dictatorship and those were the messages they found him and I imagine that harmed him in some way,” Gómez told Argentine media.

They both lived in the Province of Mendoza and have a two-year-old son. The family indicated that they were not on a mission in Colombia, but rather entered through that country because that itinerary was cheaper for them.

“He works in the Orcone Pass, between Chile and Argentina. He was not on any mission in Colombia. Both in Argentina and in Venezuela we were not doing well economically and we wanted to meet again. The feeling of being reunited won over us, the desire to hug his son again. “I never imagined that this would happen to us, we never imagined that this would happen to us, I swear to God,” she said through tears.

The Foreign Ministry of that country reported that the non-commissioned officer entered Venezuelan territory from Colombia, through a land border crossing, crossing the “Francisco de Paula Santander” International Bridge, to go to Táchira, with the purpose of visiting his family.

Gómez commented that they thought that doing things legally would not be a problem. “He crossed the borderif you come as a spy you are not going to cross a border showing yourself and that is what I have told the police to everyone. Nahuel entered legally, immigration-wise he is legal here in Venezuela,” the wife insisted.
