relatives from victims of the ARA San Juan repudiated the legislative attitude of Block of Together for Change (JXC) in the General Legislation Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, where they did not accompany the opinion of a bill, destined among other things, to protect the area where the remains of the submarine were foundcalled “Blue Hole”.
“We are not surprised by the attitude of Together for Change. It is the same each time it is about the ARA San Juan, there what comes is the mistreatment, the slap and this time it was no different“, affirmed the lawyer Valeria Carrerasrepresentative of the majority complaint followed by the relatives of the sailors of the ARA San Juan.
“This time it was necessary to approve an opinion on a bill, Blue Hole, to protect not only the natural resources of our seabed, but also the area where the final destination of the submarine and its 44 crew members remained,” said the lawyer. .,
The draft that proposes the creation of the marine protected area “Agujero Azul” is authored by the Buenos Aires Graciela Camano (Identidad Bonaerense-Federal Interbloc) and has the backing of the Frente de Todos bloc (FdT).
It would cover an area of 164,000 square kilometers, bordering the Exclusive Economic Zone, where the remains of the ARA San Juan submarine lie.
The project was debated in the second half of last year by the Foreign Relations and Worship commissions; Maritime, River, Fishing and Port Interests; and National Defense, but did not obtain an opinion and lost parliamentary status.
It had also been included in the agenda for calling extraordinary sessions made by the Executive Power for February, but the lack of committee meetings and sessions frustrated its debate.
After losing parliamentary status on February 28, it was again presented by its author, although this time the turn in the General Legislation commission was simplified.
At this point, Carreras stressed that the approval of the initiative had to do with the care of “the sovereign resources guarded by the ARA San Juancoinciding with the final destination of the 44 crew members and the ship” lamenting that “that is Together for Change, the negative vote”.
Later, in a statement issued by the complaint, the lawyer expanded that “she cannot admit” that she be left “without protection, not only the sovereign resources, but also the evidence for possible expertise in the judicial investigation into the remains and the submarine ARA San Juan”.
