Since its inception, jeans have become that versatile and basic garment that cannot be missing from the wardrobe. Regardless of its color, texture or brand, it fits all ages and budgets.

According to the Raddar Fashion Observatory, in the country, as of June 2022, the average price of a jean was close to $32,000 taking into account that there are garments of this type that “can be purchased from $20,000 to $2 million.”

Likewise, the data from the Observatory indicates that men come to pay an average of 15% more than women when buying a pair of jeans.

“A Colombian on average allocates $2,720 per month for the purchase of jeans, that is, 0.19% of monthly spending,” says the Raddar Fashion Observatory.

In front of how often a Colombian renews the jeans that he keeps in his closet, the Observatory says that on average a person buys 1.1 per year.

Now, when talking about the brands that Colombians prefer, the Raddar Fashion Observatory highlights that 32.84% of those consulted do not know about the brand of their jeans, 21.37% affirm that they buy this garment in Koaj , 10.08% buy the People brand, 6.63% say they buy HYM, 5.16% prefer Levis, while 5.4% say they buy jeans at Ozono.

Styles are also important when purchasing this type of pants, and according to statistics, Colombians opt for both classic jeans and skinny jeans.

Jean Exports

On the other hand, when talking about fashion exports, we cannot ignore jeans, one of the best-selling star products.

According to Dane figures, with analysis by ProColombia, sales abroad of this subsector reached US$42.6 million between January and June of this yearreporting an increase of 32% compared to the same period in 2021, when the reported figure was US$32.1 million.

The main destinations for Colombian jeans are: the United States, in first place, followed by Ecuador, Guatemala, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Germany, Chile and Panama.

It should be noted that the departments that exported the most jeans, during January to June 2022, were Antioquia (US$29.9 million), Bogotá (US$6.2 million), Valle del Cauca (US$4.2 million), Santander (US $803,626).
