Many vallenato artists have suffered traffic accidents in recent years, losing their lives in most cases.
Colombia News.
It happened with the children of Diomedes: Martín Elías and Moisés Díaz, who died in road accidents in 2017 and 2020 respectively.
Also in a sinister road in Curumaní, Cesar, the Vallento composer Romualdo Brito died in 2020, known for his hit ‘El Santo Cachón’.
Long ago, they also perished in the same circumstances ‘The Goddess of Vallenato’ Patricia Tehran and the vocalist of ‘The Devils’, Jesús Manuel Estrada.
And how can we forget that tragic August 24, 2005 when Kaleth Morales, ‘The King of the New Wave’, son of Miguel Morales, died after suffering a spectacular accident on a Magdalena highway.
For this reason and because of the recent accident suffered by the composer, accordionist and singer Omar Geles, when the bus in which he was traveling with his group overturned, people wonder: What about vallenato artists and their relationship with road accidents ?
To this question the composer Wilfran Castillo tried to find an answer:
«Many people wonder: why Vallenato artists have been having setbacks or rather tragic accidents; what some might call a streak of accidents. What many people do not take into account is that artists are at greater risk than all other professions except motorists or transporters of any kind “, the composer of ‘Blank Sheet’ began his reflection.
Why?… For a simple reason, and that is that of the 7 days a week we spend 3 or a maximum of 4 at home; Everyone sees us on the platform and little on the roads or planes, so they don’t consider that the risk factor (whether you take care of yourself or not) is much higher, ”Castillo added.

«However, the duty of care is the only way to get healthy to the shows and home; And it does not mean that those who have been injured have not tried to do the right thing for their trip. So, it’s not that artists are irresponsible, reckless; is that the frequency with which they travel increases the chances of a loss. I wanted to make this reflection and ask all artists to do their utmost to have professionals at the wheel, not to travel at dawn without sleeping, not to take the wheel; much less if they have ingested alcoholic beverages and always be attentive to their work team to rest and thus avoid tragic moments “, added Wilfran.

«God bless all my brother musicians in Colombia and the world. We cannot call an accident to go 160 km / h or run over another person if we are driving while intoxicated, this is called Omission of the duty of care and is part of the guilt. Being a musician is not easy … but it is beautiful and it is worth traveling to see people who appreciate us happy. Hug and merry Christmas to all, “concluded in his writing one of the great references of Vallenato composition in the last century.
