In a challenging economic context, supermarkets Wholesalers have decided to launch an unprecedented discount event to encourage sales and allow consumers to buy at retail. This event, called “Black Wholesaler”, will take place during the third week of November and seeks to promote the purchase of essential products before the Holidays.
The initiative arises in the midst of a general drop in consumption, which reached 17.2% annually in August, the worst record in the last ten years. The supermarkets Wholesalers have seen an even greater decline in sales compared to retailers, with turnover accumulating a 13.3% drop in the first half of 2024.
Faced with this situation, the Argentine Chamber of Distributors and Wholesale Self-Services (CADAM) has decided to join forces to create this joint strategy that will allow consumers access products at promotional prices.
The “Black Wholesaler” is not only aimed at the general public, but also seeks to benefit retail businesses, allowing them to acquire stock at special prices to capture December sales, a month in which consumption traditionally increases due to celebrations. end of the year.
This strategy is especially relevant considering that more than 60% of sales of essential products are made through the wholesale channel. The decision to launch this discount event responds to the need to reverse losses and improve year-end balances.
“We want families to access food and beverages at promotional values and for the red numbers (with losses) to turn black (with profits) to close the year of our balance sheets,” explained a CADAM representative during the National Congress of Wholesale Distributors. of Mass Consumption Products (Conal), held at the Sheraton Pilar hotel.
Companies
The event will feature the participation of more than 200 businessmen from all over the country, including wholesalers, distributors, economists and CEOs of companies such as Newsan, Molinos Río de la Plata and SC Johnson & Son. In addition, the collaboration of banks and virtual wallets is expected to facilitate transactions and offer additional benefits to consumers.
The “Black Wholesaler” is framed in a context of sharp decline in consumption and high inflation, factors that have significantly affected the purchasing power of Argentines. The inflation accumulated so far this year has exceeded 100%, which has led many families to look for alternatives to save on their daily purchases.
