On January 23, 2019, Heath was ratified by the Plenary Session of the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union as deputy governor of Banxico, replacing Manuel Ramos Francia, who had already completed his term in office.

Jonathan Heath will be a member of the Governing Board until December 31, 2026.

Trajectory

The deputy governor of Banco de México has 40 years of experience in analyzing the Mexican economy and its prospects.

During the last four decades, Heath has been a principal economist for various financial institutions such as HSBC Mexico and globally, and for consulting firms such as Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates, Macro Asesoría Económica and LatinSource México.

In the public sphere, he was deputy director of macroeconomic analysis of the General Directorate of Economic and Social Policy of the former Secretariat of Programming and Budget (1981-1983).

He collaborated as a research assistant at the Institute of Political, Economic and Social Studies (IEPES) from 1975 to 1976, and at the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE) from 1977 to 1978. Between 2010 and 2012 he was a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

In the academic sector, he has been a professor at the Anáhuac, Pan-American, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Las Américas, UAM and Ibero-American universities. He has been a guest lecturer at more than 50 universities in Mexico and the United States.

Since 1992 he has been a member of the Mexican Institute of Finance Executives (IMEF).

heath wrote the book What the indicators indicate: how to use statistical information to understand the economic reality of Mexicofrom which the diploma course on macroeconomic indicators of Mexico was implemented in the Educational Forum of the Interactive Museum of Economy (MIDE).

Among other books, Jonathan Heath is the author of To understand the Bank of Mexico, The curse of six-year crises Y The money.

Scholarship

The deputy governor of Banxico is an economist from the Anahuac University, where he graduated with honors in 1978; At the University of Pennsylvania he completed a master’s degree in Economics and took doctoral exams in monetary economics and international economics (without thesis), Banxico reported.
