WHO recommends a second booster vaccine against Covid-19 for older people and risk groups

The independent vaccination council of the World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended this Thursday for the first time that older people receive a second booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The president of Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE), Alexander Craviotohas underlined in Geneva that this does not mean a regular booster recommendation every four to six months.

the sage left the exact age range open in his recommendationso each country will have to decide for itself at what age it wants to offer the second booster vaccine, although the panel notes that ideally, the vaccines should be administered between four and six months after the first booster vaccine.

In addition, SAGE recommends that health workers of all ages receive a second booster shotas well as people with weakened immune systems or other conditions that increase the risk of serious illness after infection with respiratory disease.
