“El Grande” was born on September 21, 1969 in Torreón, Coahuila. He was nicknamed so due to his height that exceeds two meters. Other known nicknames are “Comeniños” and “King Kong”.
In his native Coahuila, he was part of the State Ministerial Police and the extinct Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR). While he was performing public functions, he began his relationship with the Reynosa Cartel.
He also had links with the Juárez Cartel, the Gulf Cartel, Los Zetas and, finally, with the Sinaloa Cartel, led by the Beltrán Leyva.
After the death of Arturo Beltrán Leyva during a shootout in 2009, control of the Cartel was divided, on one side led by Édgar Valdez Villarreal “La Barbie” and Gerardo Alvarez-Vazquez and on the other by Héctor Beltrán Leyva and Sergio Villarreal Barragán
