This Monday the court prosecutor Juan Gómez ordered the transfer of prosecutor Gabriela Fossati, who until today led the investigation of the so-called Astesiano case. Instead, Gomez appointed Sabrina Floreswho knows He was the head of the Montevideo 10th Shift Flagrancia Prosecutor’s Office.
Fossati will go from the 12th Shift Prosecutor’s Office to the 16th Shift, a change that was called by Gómez as “horizontal” and does not imply changes of degree in the hierarchy.
Flores is remembered primarily for her work on causes involving the Argentine trade unionist Marcelo Balcedoas well as for his participation –albeit brief– in the investigation of the so-called Operation Ocean and the robbery of the jewelry store at the Enjoy Hotel from Punta del Este.
Flowers He began his career in 2015 in Cerro Largo as a departmental prosecutor, later he was moved to Maldonado where he was in charge of some of the most remembered cases.
One of them was the robbery of twelve Mexican citizens to the jewelry store of the Enjoy Hotel of Punta del Este –ex Conrad– for a value close to three million dollars.
In that department I also investigate the Argentine trade unionist Balcedo.
Under the leadership of the prosecutor, the police raided the mansion “El Gran Chaparral“, where Balcedo and his family resided. Later, the trade unionist and his wife Paola Fiege sued the prosecutor for damage to home during raid.
Also in Maldonado, the lawyer was in charge of part of the investigation of the so-called Operation Ocean, since the case began to be investigated by a complaint of sexual abuse that was filed in that department. That investigation then fell into the hands of Darviña Viera, who months later was transferred to another Sexual Offenses Prosecutor for health reasons, and is currently in charge of Mariana Alfaro.
After passing through Maldonado, Flores was appointed July 2018 as one of the first prosecutors for sexual crimes in Montevideowhen that specialization was created under the management of former court prosecutor Jorge Díaz.
It was during this period as Prosecutor for Sexual Crimes – from July 2018 to May 2020 – that he gave an interview to the Communications Department of the Prosecutor’s Office, where he explained that his job as a prosecutor consisted of representing the whole of society and the victim.
“What the prosecutor does is gather the evidence and present it before a judge to decide whether or not the person is guilty of the crime or of the facts that the Prosecutor says he committed.“, he commented in the interview published on the Youtube channel of the Prosecutor’s Office on April 9, 2019.
As head of Flagrancy of the 10th Shift, the prosecutor investigated the case of the accident in the accesses to Montevideo on November 13, 2020where Pedro Recalde died, a man who was circulating below the overpass, who collapsed after being hit by the arm of a backhoe carrying a truck.
Flores asked to charge the truck driver with culpable homicide and he was finally convicted in March of this year.
In recent weeks the prosecutor was in charge of writing a report at the request of Gómez in which he had to investigate the “incident” occurred between Fossati and Romano by management of the Astesiano case. The discussion between the two prosecutors ended with a complaint for gender violence presented by Fossati against Romano.
Now the report is being studied by the legal department of the Prosecutor’s Office, awaiting a resolution.
